Deprivation

My cousin, Sharlene, seriously has the best blog I have ever read. The stories about her kids are hillarious. Even if you don't know her, you should read it just for laughs. (you probably won't be the only person that doesn't know her that reads it!) http://wightbunch.blogspot.com/

Her most recent post was about living vicariously through her kids...I think we all do that to some degree. I know I tend to spoil my kids a bit...giving them a lot of things that I never got to have. I tell them all of the time that they are spoiled. Somehow they have turned out relatively well-mannered anyway.

Things I wanted as a kid, but never got:

Play-doh...dad said it would get in the carpet.

Lee jeans...there is nothing special about them, but as a kid they were popular and I never had one pair. I asked for them EVERY Christmas. I am scarred for life. Therefore, I try to make sure my kids have cute clothes.

An Easy Bake Oven...dad said I would burn the house down. Living with an electrician can be a real downer.

A doll that "pees"...this one my kids actually never did get. They weren't all that into baby dolls.

What deprivation trauma have you experienced and how does it make you treat your own children?

Funny!
I think my kids are spoiled rotten. We NEVER ate out as kids (Derek or I).
We go out for Ice Cream at least once a week. We eat out more than we did as kids but not to often and it always involves the dollar menu!
