Insurance?

About a week ago, Dave and Jake were on their way back up here from Spanish Fork and they got a flat tire. While my darling husband was changing it, he cut his thumb rather deeply. It was late in the evening. They stopped at an urgent care in Orem around 10 pm and he was turned away ("sorry we just turned our computers off"). We (I) didn't want to pay ANOTHER E.R. bill, so he waited and went to an urgent care in the morning. We thought they could stitch it up for up to 24 hours after it happened. Wrong! He got to the urgent care here in West Jordan the next morning and was told it was too late. They just cleaned it out well with saline (which I could have done) and gave him a prescription for some antibiotics to (hopefully) keep it from becoming infected.

Sooo...today I check the mail and got a statement from the aforementioned Instacare saying that claim had to be filed with our car insurance before it could be filed with our health insurance. I called them and explained that it was just an injury from changing a flat tire, not from a car accident. They informed me that Utah (in its infinite wisdom) has a law that says any injury that happens in, on, or around a car - whether the car is running or not - must be filed through the car insurance BEFORE the health insurance. Well...our car insurance has a $500 deductible, so guess who gets to pay that $125 bill. Yep, you guessed it.

Seriously....so if they would NOT have known that it happened on a car, the insurance would have picked it up.
STUPID...holy crap. I am glad I know that.
I am so sorry...I'm sure the ER would have been much worse though.

That is crazy! I'm just as frustrated with this insurance stuff as you. Don't even get me started.
