Sunny (Sort Of) St. George

Saturday morning we got up bright and early and left cold, snow-sputtering Salt Lake City and headed south...the first hour or so was flurries and fog but eventually we could see the sky and the mountains again. We drove to Cedar City where we picked up Colton, Bryson, and CheyAnn, then headed further south to St. George. Saturday afternoon we froze our buttocks off at two back-to-back soccer games that the boys had. The temperature for that 3 1/2 hour block was in the low 40's, but it was windy so it felt much colder. Thank heavens for fleece blankets!!!

We went to The Brick Oven for dinner. It so happens that I got engaged to Katelyn and Kira's dad at a restaurant from the same franchise that was in Provo way back in 1994, so the girls enjoyed hearing the story about how their dad blindfolded me, took me into the restaurant and sat me down at a table. He proceeded to blow out a candle, take my engagement ring off of it, get down on his knee and propose in front of everyone. A very Norman Rockwell moment to all of the onlookers, but in retrospect, maybe just a tad cheesy. Anyway...Kira asked to hear the story three times.

While down there we attempted some family pictures. Our efforts were sabbotaged at every turn. The camera tripod was broken, I forgot my makeup bag in Salt Lake, it was windy...yadda yadda. Anyway, to take the pictures we went to a park near the St. George temple. It had a gazebo, so we decided to use that for our photo shoot. Turns out it was the W.H. Thompson Gazebo...named for one of the girl's dad's ancestors (he has a lot of relatives that were from that area). I thought it was sort of funny that we came across that little piece of Katelyn and Kira's family history so coincidentally.

We got back to Salt Lake tonight...about an inch of snow on the ground and about 32 degrees. Brrr...I wanna go back to St. George!
