Thankful a/k/a Mom's brag time

We went to Katelyn's parent-teacher conferences. It was a good reminder to me how lucky I am to have the kids that I do. Katelyn's grades are all A's and B's right now. Her teachers all had positive things to say about her (as we waited our turn to talk to each teacher, we noticed the people the teachers talked to the longest had the worst grades). Her science teacher said that she was in the top 5 of his 8th grade students. Her spanish teacher said she did really well on her oral spanish work in front of the class (en la frente de la clase...mom took spanish, too!). All of that stuff made me feel really good...but here is what REALLY made me grateful:

When Katelyn was in grade school and we lived in Sandy, she had a girl she was really close friends with. Eventually we moved to West Jordan and they lost track of each other. A year or so ago when Katelyn started junior high, we ran into this girl again...she had moved to West Jordan, too. She and Katelyn don't have a lot of common interests anymore, so they are more acquaintances than buddies now, I suppose. Tonight at conferences we ran into that girl. She is looking more and more like a teenager heading for trouble... just sort of...rough looking. When I was chatting with her about her grades, she said she only had 2 F's, and she would bring them up. I wanted to cry. She is such a sweet kid and she is totally headed down the wrong path. Her home life is sort of a mess, which of course contributes to that. Half wish i could move her in with me. I don't know...I am probably not expressing this well. Anyway, I just left that school thinking thank you to the Lord for the great kids that I have been blessed with.

That is so wonderful about your girls! I sure hope that my boys have a similar experience in school!
